Artist: John Chan
Bio: John Chan is a Hong Kong based artist, studying a BA of Fine Arts in London. His art style of fine-liner pens mainly uses graphically intricate patterns to depict scenes of Hong Kong culture, including buildings and old landmarks & symbols of the city. These two artworks are depictions of the Main Building of Hong Kong University. Using black and white photos taken in the 1920s when the building was first constructed, John Chan seeks to modernise these old images using his graphical style. This artwork also seeks to embolden the importance that this building brings to the people of Hong Kong, educating the next generation so that they may better contribute to Hong Kong’s growth and development, paving the road forward for future generations.
